“Kid Kong and Gaw Girl of Skull Island” is the first book of a series created for fledgling explorers and curious minds. Armed with his trusty sketchbook, Kid is an inquisitive, eager Thinker, while Gaw is a fearless, Think Later do-er.
Readers will explore the marvels and mysteries of the prehistoric island alongside Kid and Gaw in stories brimming with cartoon humor and pictures packed with imagination fuel.
From Joe DeVito’s King Kong of Skull Island universe, “Kid Kong and Gaw Girl of Skull Island” is written and illustrated by Becca H. Klein.
Kid and Gaw pinball all over the wild biomes of the island. There literally wasn’t enough visual real estate to tell the story in a vertical format, so we switched to a horizontal 8.5” h x 11”w layout. A full spread opens to an impressive 22” wide landscape to allow Kid and Gaw’s journeys to really travel and sweep across the pages.
Those pages? A 32-page expedition in action and teamwork on quality paper. Hardcovers barely contain the adventure, but do so in a sturdy way that will stand up to re-reads, book bag travel, and hopefully library checkouts!
Join us in launching not only a charming new book series, but also Becca’s career as a talented new children’s book illustrator/author. Your support can help her take this exciting first step - and bring many more wonderful stories and adventures to life.
It started many decades ago, when Joe DeVito first became mesmerized by all things King Kong and Skull Island. He set out to discover the mysteries behind both Kong and his exotic island home. Creator, Author, and Illustrator of King Kong of Skull Island, Joe wanted to bring the prehistoric world to a new audience–kids! And the idea for Kid Kong and Gaw Girl was born.
After laying the groundwork, Joe joined forces with Becca H. Klein to bring that world more fully to life! Her beautifully realized characters and original story arc combine to create an irresistible journey of discovery in words and pictures for young readers to explore.
Here’s where you enter the story - The book is 99% done, but we need your help getting it into production, in front of readers, and into their hands!
Becca H. Klein- “Becsketch” online. When she was a kid, she was definitely the Matilda type with the wagon full of books, and admittedly judged books by their covers - Bill Peet and Jan Brett were her favorites. Fast forward and her two bookworm kids have been able to watch this book come to life over her shoulder. Occasionally, her two cats watched as well, and chased the cursor.
Becca has a background in animation, worked a long stretch in designing and illustrating collectibles, and even did over 40 illustrations for ABC’s “Once Upon A Time,” but this book is her first go as author and illustrator. After this series, she hopes there are more children’s books in her future. She designs shoes based on Disney characters for fun, popsicle sticks give her the yick shivers, and she wants to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she grows up.
